I made a last minute decision to head to Wray this weekend with the kids. I was getting a little homesick to see some family and slow down some! We had not been back since July 17th, and even that was just Chad and I and a very brief trip for a wedding. Chad needed to stay behind and help Bryon with some very hard labor of tearing up concrete in a part of the basement. I figured it would just be best to stay out of their way and get away as this was the only weekend available until we go back for Thanksgiving. We got a late start on last night as usual. The trip was not so much fun as I ended up getting my 1st speeding ticket EVER in Akron, which I hear is notorious for tickets. I was going 37 in a 25 in the city limits. Really wasn’t paying too much attention to my speed, its easy to get a lead foot when you live in the city and its go, go, go, rush, rush, rush, constantly. Oh and its gets even better…..20 min. later I pass a cop outside of Yuma, I was very good about leaving my cruise control on the speed limit. When we passed by each other, I noticed he put on his brake lights, but kept doing. I was a little torked and wondering why he would do that. No more than a min. later flashing lights came blazing over the hill towards me, I just knew he was after me for something. I proceed to pull over, I was so frustrated because I was SO over being pulled over with 2 kids and just wanted to get to Wray. I warned him I had just got pulled over 20 min. ago and I was going the speed limit. He told me that my plate light was out. REALLY?!? Do these cops have anything else better to do?? He just gave me a warning and I preceded on with our trip. So the weekend and B’s birthday didn’t really start off to well. An exhausted mama, 2 kids that wanted to be up ‘til midnight because they slept part of the way down and $150 ticket is not the way to start any trip! The best part about getting to Aunt Brit’s house was that we celebrated B’s birthday with cupcakes in the shape of a flower and she got to open up her Ariel bath doll!
The one hard thing about both being from the same town is that you most likely have a lot of relatives in a small area, and we do! I always like to be fair and make sure we see everybody, especially with kids now. Some of Chad and I’s grandparents are getting to the age where you just never know if its going to be the last time you will get to see them, so we try to make the most of our visits every time we get to see them. The kids and I spent most of the day visiting family. In the afternoon, we went out to the boondocks about 45 min. SE of Wray to ride the tractor with my brother. This was the 1st time B & B got to do this, so it was neat to share that moment with them! We rode a few rounds with him and then headed back to Wray for more visiting!
