09.17.10 Michigan day 2: Touring campus & Ann Arbor

We spent the full day in Ann Arbor today and we were more than impressed, what a beautiful city and campus! I can understand why its the ranked high in the top 100 places to live year after year, why its been awarded the title "quintessentially cool college town" by Seventeen magazine, rated the second most "Woman Friendly City in America" by Ladies Home Journal. I also read somewhere where its a 'walking city', and I totally believe that for sure, Chad and I got our walking on for sure!We started the day touring the campus. We were just amazed at how huge the stadium is and the campus in general, we saw a majority of it on foot, but also realized we missed a bunch of it as we drove out of Ann Arbor on Sunday! After the campus tour, we headed to downtown Ann Arbor, walked around, shopped at the many UM stores they have, toured campus and ended the day with a yummy dinner at the Melting Pot! The campus is so amazing. The beauty is just striking, it really made me feel like we were in Europe. There is a few pictures in here of my favorite buildings..the Law Quadrangle, home of U of M's respected law school. It was built in between the 20's and 30's and modeled after Britian's Cambridge University. Another few buildings I was impressed with was the Michigan Union. This is was built in the 1920's and was the site of President Kennedy's announcement to form the Peace Corps. The U of M Museum of Art, among the top 10 U.S. university art musuems is stunning as well. Downtown Ann Arbor is beautiful as well. We were set back by the huge 2 story Mden store which carries everything you can imagine Michigan! It was easy to fall in love with this city! I don't say it about too many cities, it would probably be a close 2nd if we weren't in Colorado! There are trees EVERYWHERE, which is very attractive to me and one thing I miss in Colorado! We probably missed the leaves turning by a few weeks, that would be neat to see. We also joked that we need to move there and take up residency so that someday we wouldn't have to pay out of state tuition, or best of all, we can only dream he'd just get a schlarship there and not have to worry about the previous stuff! :)
