02.17.10 Potty training

Oh my, I will tell you that the last 5 days has challenged and stretched me as a parent! I did not plan to start this phase yet, I was going to give it a few more months and more interest, but on Wednesday when I cleaning up the kitchen I noticed B was trying to poop, so I took that opportunity to run her into the bathroom and sat her on the potty. Luckily she had not gone yet in her diaper and totally threw me for a loop and did #2 in the little potty, I was SO estatic. So since that got me motivated, I put her in her big girl panties and tried it out the rest of the day, no success after that, but we tried so hard. I've heard that kids usually don't like to sit in wet pants and don't like the feeling of it going down their leg, well, I will tell you that it doesn't seem to bother Brynley, goodness...As I was showering Wednesday night, Bray took some interest in wearing big kid underwear, so I decided to give him a shot at it. Thursday comes and we were not succeeding and when all my frustration and motivation to quit was nearing, Bray decides to FINALLY go on the little potty!!! The first day he was a little late in making the connection and telling me he had to go pee as he was doing it. Ever since that 1st success with him, he has been getting better each day and I really believe we have 50% of our potty training done in this house! I was a little nervous on Saturday when we took him out on his first outing with underwear on (trust me, I came fully prepared and really thought he would have an accident), but he surprised us all and Chad said he used the potty, YEAH!!
This is all a new, learning phase for us and it really makes me appreciate the fact we only have 2 kids to go through this, its definetly challenging. I remember making a comment to Chad on that 1st day after a LONG day of no success how it reminded me of when Bray was first born and we tried a gizzillion times to get him to breastfeed, which resulted us in a adventureous, trying 1st few weeks with him but after he finally got the hang of it and got over the jaundice, it was such a huge relief and that's exactly what I felt through with this stage!
I really didn't want to give up on Brynley, but I know our peditrician says not to push them with this. I know she's almost 2 1/2 and I really think by this summer it will sink in and hopefully we can be diaper free (except for bedtime)!! I joke with Chad that the diaper money will now be spent on preschool tuition money, just passing it on to a new chapter in our life!
