I can't believe Bray is already 3, where does the time go? We kept the celebration pretty low key like Bryn's as they have a party coming up this weekend! Bray did in fact though get the best birthday wish, SNOW!! We ended up getting about 6 inches so far! The first thing he wanted to do when he got up and saw the snow was to go out and play in it, so during the entire day they were outside 3 times I think, which is fun for them, but for mom, its the dreaded task of snowpants, coat, boots, hat, mittens and hopefully by the time you have done all of that, you discover they have a dirty diaper, go figure! I had to hide his gifts from us for the past week as he is really into opening presents now and Chad wanted him to wait until he got home from work today! After he did finally make it home, he opened them and ended up keeping him entertained for the next few hours while I made his favorite meal, Spaghetti! I also made brownies for dessert. All in all, it was a great day and he's exhausted! So I blogged about Bryn's birth story, so its only fair if I do Bray's right? I'll try to keep it short!
My plan was to quit Starbucks about a month before he was due to arrive, which I did end up doing. During the last few months at work, as much as had hoped to do a longer shift, I could barely take 4 hours on my feet at a time. I will always remember how much pain I was in at the end of a workday and a huge thanks to my hubby who practically rubbed my feet every night! As much as I'd miss my coworkers and the tons of people I met, I was ready to be off my feet for awhile! A couple of weeks before he was scheduled to be due, a few of my tests came back abnormal and my doctor said she'd like to deliver him in the next 2-3 days. Oh boy did my planning all change in a heartbeat! All this stuff I had planned was going to have to be done superfast or just have to wait! I remember calling Chad and telling him that Dr. Schmitz wanted us to check into the hospital on Friday night at 9pm to start the labor process and I think it really finally hit us fast, we really are going to have a baby in 3 days, wow! She suggested we go out and have a filling meal as it would be awhile until I ate again, so we decided to have our last meal as a family of 2 together at one of my favorite places, Cheesecake Factory. As we were driving to the hospital that night, it really hit me hard, I got very nervous and a little emotional, it really was going to happen now, can I do this? this being labor, this being something I've feared for a long while, how will mine go? We got checked in and I will never forget the HUGE amount of stuff we brought, pretty ridiciolous as I look back on it! I remember the admissions person saying something too, you learn your lesson after the first one! After I had got settled into our room, plans changed a little bit. Dr. Schmitz had originally wanted to start the laboring process, which they did, but very very slowly. I was told I had the smallest dose of Pitocin to get me going. My doctor had decided that I could try to get as much sleep as possible and we'd start early in the morning and see how things went. Well, Bray had different plans! At 3am, I had the weirdest feeling ever, my water broke! Its so crazy to describe, but basically its like peeing your pants but it doesn't stop for quite some time, very crazy! A few hours passed and I was given my epidural after I started having some contractions. Epidurals are a pregnant woman's best friend! After almost an hour of pushing, Braylon Drew was born at 9:06am. It was miraclous and I have to say I was blessed with not only an great pregnancy but also labor and delivery! We were shocked when he did come out the amount of hair he had and it was RED and curly! The most challenging part of the whole experience was breastfeeding and Braylon developing jaundice because of it. After taking many prenatal classes, even a breastfeeding class, reading so many books, nothing can prepare you until they are here and you experience it first hand. We tried everything in the book to get him to breastfeed, even being frequent visitors of our lactation consultant. Finally getting my milk in after almost a week, he mastered it and I continued on for a few months before I ended up finding out, I get to do this all over again for the next 9 months!
